Link with parameters

Hi,
is it possible to start a Report via Link (from Desktop) with start
parameter like an
ASP-Script
For example:
...report.rdl?Year=2007&Month=6...
Thank you
HansThat's what URL access in RS is for.

Hans|||ok,
so this is a sample you can use to see how it works if you have implemented
the samples and hosted the reports on localserver. copy this url from
desktop.. also you can write asp.net to mask this url and give just a
hyperlink from the page.. see the parameters also passed.

Thanks,
Hans|||Hans,
Have you pasted my sample link as a whole URL because it is wraped in the
post.
Incase you have done this pl ignore, you said there is no parameter value,
so I thought you have not pasted the whole URL.

Link to a report with parameters

I need to create a report with some parameters for filtering data.
This report must be called by URL link on an Html page.
This link must contains the values of these parameters; I don' want
specify the values when I see the report by clicking on View report button.
Is it possible? How?
What is the format of link for passing parameters to filter data?
Many thanks1. Try leaving the parameter Prompt blank... This should prevent the
parameter from displaying, (but you must provide a default value...)
2. Search for URL Access in Books on line and you will get an entire list
of all of the things you can do via URL in reporting services.
Hope this helps..

but I see some parameters that the user hasn't change!
Moreover, if I change the parameter property "User request"
by setting to false value, the call of report dumps!
The issue is partially solved! I need to pass a parameter by Url
and these parameters cannot change by a user.
Can I solve this problem URGENTLY?
Many thanks

I have followed your suggests, but the solution isn't complete:
or I see the parameter or I cannot modify the parameter
that I pass via URL (an error occurs!!!)!

1. passing a parameter via URL to call my report filtering data by the
parameter;
2. hide or protect parameter inside report manager to avoid any user's
changes.
The first step is solved. The report is called correctly and I see the
correct value
of parameter (the same written in the URL). I have written correctly the
name of parameter.
Now, when I set user request for the parameter, inside report manager, to
false
in order to hide the parameter, this message error occurs:
"sReadOnlyReportParameter" and I cannot the value of parameter by the value
in the URL.
This strange behaviour represents a limit of RS!
Moreover, I have specified a default value of parameter with a particular
value.
Now, is it really possible to solve completely this issue?
Do I have a particular SP (SP1, SP2, ...)?
Many thanks

Limits on parameters and query complexity?

I have a huge SQL statement with subqueries in the From and Where clauses.
When I run it in SQL Query Analyzer, it runs fine, but if I put it into the
Data tab of a report, Visual Studio just hangs.
I've been able to create the parameter list manually (adding them to the
Report Parameters dialog), and then when I paste the query in without the
Where clause, it works ok. I can then start adding lines to the Where
clause, but as soon as I get enough lines for about 10 parameters or so, it
hangs up again.
I know nothing's wrong with the SQL itself since it runs in Query Analyzer
without a hitch; am I looking at a bug in RS?Sounds like a bug. If you have a good repro, please send it to me at

Limitation on Number of Parameters??

Hi,
I would like to know, while running the report in the Report Manager, do we
have any limitation on number of parameters or specifically in number of drop
down parameters?
One of my report is having 35 parameters for the user to enter, it is
working fine in Designer's Preview mode, but when i deploy it to server and
when i run the report from the server, its not showing the output and no
errors also. If i reduce the number of parameters its working fine. Why is
this strange behaviour, your help is highly appreciated in this.
TIA,
Sen KHi
it seems to me that the limitation is not in the number of parameters but in
the length of the calling sql statement. I don't know how to explain
exactly... I had about 14 parameters with dependencies among them. And one
value in the combobox was extremely long. Report behaved in the same way. The
only workaround i found - place a shorter name for this long value and in the
main stored procedure simply "decode" it to its longer variant.

Limitation on Multiple parameters with Multi-Select and default values

Dear Anyone,

I created 6 parameters in my report. Each of these parameters are multi-select enabled. Each of their available values comes from a data set. Their default values also comes from a data set in order to have the select all check box selected by default.

My problem is only the first 2 parameters gets to have the select all selected. And the rest just have blank values. I was wondering if RS parameters have some sort of limitation that I cannot enable data set default values in all of my parameters.
Thanks,
JosephThere seems to be a bug in RS2005 in the parameters section. Filter the data set your using for the parameters to not include blanks. This is aparently whats causing your problem.|||

Hello,

I need to create reports with parameters that allow for multi-selection values.

How can I make them multi-select enabled?

Appreciate your reponse.

my reports have a start date and end date as parameters and I would
like to limit the date range to 6 months so that a user cannot enter a
huge date range or something and slow down the database.Just build a custom prompting mechanizm on your own web page, validating
user input there , disable built-in param prompts in RDL,
construct a custom URL query string on your own web page , than simply
redirect.
