If I want to put one server in one datacenter and the other server in another
datacenter what are the limitations of the heartbeat?

Heartbeat is not a problem. As long as you get 3-5ms TCP/IP response it is
OK. The bigger issue is the SAN connectivity. Making sure that it does not
have problems.
