Link to another report on point labels in Pie Chart
If that is unclear, maybe it will help if I explain what I'm trying to do. The pie chart is a chart showing the status of developer issues in an issue tracking database. (Open, In-Progress, Awaiting Verification, Closed, Rejected, etc.) Each wedge of the pie has a point label that shows the number of issues that fall into the category (8 issues opened, 12 issues IP, etc.) When I click on the label that shows the number, I want to be taken to a table that shows what the issues in that category are.
Is this possible with SQL Server Reporting Services? Thanks in advance.Yes. Check out Chart Properties Dialog -> Values -> Edit -> Edit Chart Value
dialog box -> Action tab. You can choose Jump To Report option here and
specify the target report. You can also pass parameters to the target report
from this location.

Line/Point Chart
"hide" the line. Scatter chart does not appear to be the right choice for
this. Is there a way to create a line chart and then hide the line so that
only the data points themselves are visible?
JHIn RS 2000 SP1 or later, you can just set the border line width property on
the value to a value of 0.5 pt or lower.
In RS 2005, you can set the border line style to "None".

Line weight in line chart
Is it possible to change the weight of a line in a line chart?
There seems to be the option to change just about everything else but not
the weight of the actual data line itself?
Thanks
PeteYou will need RS 2000 SP1 installed:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=580FEBF7-2972-40E7-BCCF-6CD90AC2F464&displaylang=en
Then in report designer layout view: right-click the chart, select
properties, go to the data tab,
press the edit button for the desired value, go to the appearance tab and
there you can set the width of a line.

Line Point chart
How can i change the color property of the line in the line chart.
For bar charts and all i go to series style and change it.
but for line chart, default comes to green - and i would like to change it
to red.
thanksFor line charts, you need to change the series style border line color
(instead of the color property).

Line in area chart
I've been searching for an option to add a line to an area chart, but so far
I haven't found a way to do this. Could someone tell me how to do this, if
it's possible.
Thanks in advance,
HKI've had to deal with the opposite, that of removing a heavy blue line that
had been put there because of the report style I chose. I figured out that
the line was actually a border property, and the only way to get rid of it
was to set the border to White. A (None) option would have been preferrable.

trendline. So instead of adding a line to a bar graph, I would like to add a
line to an area graph.

Line in a bar chart.
Basically I have two series for the chart. The first series would appear as a bar chart. The second as a line.
ThanksIn the Report Designer, go to the Chart Properties dialog. Click on the Data tab, select the data point you want to make a line, click 'Edit..'. In the chart value dialog, click on the Appearance tab and select 'Plot Data as Line'.

Line graph - line width
always seem several pixels wide.
Also, when selecting "Numeric or time-scale values" on the X-axis of a line
chart the labels appear vertically in the Chart Properties dialog box but
appear horizontally when the report is generated. I have RS sp1 installed.
How do I fix this problem?Answer to your first problem:
Layout view: right-click the chart, select properties, go to the data tab,
press the edit button for the desired value, go to the appearance tab and
there you can set the width of a line.

sharp lines. Less than 0.75 and the line doesn't appear.

integer values for line width. This will change in RS 2005. For pixel-based
output format (like TIFF) you won't notice to much difference, but in vector
graphics formats (like EMF) you will see differences especially when zooming
or at high resolutions (e.g. printing).

Line chart, line goes to 0 when data missing
next point to zero. This can result in displaying incorrect information to
the user. Example:
Display sales over past two years. We have not measured sales last year
until May. And for this year, we have only measured up to September. For the
missing months, there are no rows in the dataset. I.e., time span in dataset
(number of rows) is May 2003 to September 2004, one row per month.
However, last year line starts February with value of 0. This is false
information. We did not have 0 sales in Feb 2003. We don't know how much
sales we had.
Also, current year sales end at Oct 2004 with value of 0. This is also false
information.
Can the diagram be configured to it just terminate the line "midair" when
input data is missing?
TIA

The KB refers to rows with NULL for the value. My case is that I have no row
for certain points, and I don't want the prior or next point to make up a
point with a value of 0.
FYI:
I have an expression for the Style of the line, so that current year is
solid, past year is dotted:
=Iif( Fields!year_offset.Value = 0, "Solid", "Dotted")
I also have an expression for Color of the line. Since I have bunch of
diagrams I pick up the color from a text box (so I can change color in one
place):
=ReportItems!gcsSelected.Value
Thanks!

Line Chart X-Axis has too many point
I have a Chart line report that works great except when there are too many
data points. The x-axis labels then get too cramped and become unreadable.
I saw from another post that to fix this, you right mouse click on the chart
object, select properties, select "X Axis" tab, set "Major tick mark" to
"None" and "Minor tick mark" to "None". So I have "Major tick mark" set to
"None" and "Minor tick mark" set to "None" and also set on my "X Axis" tab
is: Checkbox "Show labels" is "Checked" and "Scale Minimum" = 0 (nothing
else is specified). However, this is not solving the problem (i.e. the
x-axis labels are still cramped together and unreadable).
I called Dundas Software and their tech support department said they cannot
provide technical support to me since I am using the Chart control packaged
with SQL Reporting Svsc 2005.
Can anyone offer any advice on how I can solve this?

the issue with too many labels on the x-axis by setting the x-axis MINOR
interval value to e.g. 5 (i.e. one label per 5 categories / data samples).

Line Chart with a "Single Category Group"
I have a line chart showing some data vs time. The chart is okay when
we have multiple periods (say Q1 2006 and Q2 2006). However, the chart
is empty when only period (the category group) is being displayed.
This leaves me with two questions...,
1. is this because line charts are supposed to show trends over
multiple category groups and thus are Not applicable for a single
category group?
2. is there a fix for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thnx a ton.Oops..., I meant the chart is empty when only a single period (say only
Q1 2006) is selected (i.e. is to be displayed).

Turns out I need to edit the data field, and enable the "Show Markers"
checkbox :)

Line Chart used in Subreport ...
I am using a Main report page which has different subreports and depending
on some data selection, I will show different sub reports.
But when I am using a line diagram in a sub report, this report will show
all the time. The same visible expression works fine on a sub report, which
has
only data values on.
Thanks for any help
RichardHi,
I found a solution by my self.
I just modify the database selection (via code) in that way, that the query
will not find data for this graph.
If anybody knows a better way, feel free to let me know .

Line chart threshold
one more line added to the graphs set to a static value to show what
the threshold would be. I have tried drawing a line on the chart and
this works in BIDS preview, but it does not appear when I publish the
report. Any suggestions on a better way to do this? I have also
tried adding a field with a static value to the dataset, but it draws
the line multiple times and shows multiple instances of the value in
the legend.On Mar 4, 2:03 am, Victag <miketagg...@.gmail.com> wrote:

Add another data value. add at the place where you can see the
original data you are seeing now.
This should work
Thanks

I tried adding a value to the dataset and putting that value in the
graph, but now I see more than one line in the graph for the value and
it shows multiple times in the legend.
Line Chart question
series will be missing data within the time range.
Currently the line is drawn from the last point to the next valid point. Is
it possible to have the report drawn with the line missing (or not drawn) for
that specific point for that specific series?
Thanks,
KevinHi
Set the border property in RS2005 to none , try something like this
=iif( Fields!<FieldName>.value=nothing or Fields!
<FieldName>.value='' , "None",
"Solid")
Cheers

I changed the report to a x-y scatter and modified the sql query, but your
bit of code helped with another issue...

color in a bar chart, but cannot seem to change the color of the lines when
selecting a smooth line chart.
-ChrisThe relevant property in line charts is the border line color property.

Line Chart in RS - simple design question
I have a simply data file that I want to make a time-based line chart and I can't seem to get charts in RS to do it. The data file structure is as follows: (first line is column labels and each row is a case with three data points - one for each year)
school 2003 2004 2005
SchA 100 122 133
SchB 121 145 115
SchC 98 112 120
I can't seem to get the right series, category, and data fields to get a very simple line chart for each school (one trend line for each school connecting the three data points all one the same chart). It's trivial in Excel and using pivot tables, but RS charts is not structured the same way.?
The fields in the SQL result set returned are School, 2003, 2004, & 2005.
Any help for this seemingly simply problem would be appreciated. Thanks
Ed Sloat
your resultset has to look like this:Year SchA SchB SchC
2003 100 121 98
2004 122 145 112
2005 133 115 120
SchA, SchB, SchC are your value fieldsYear is your category field
this should work fine|||
Gerhard, Thanks for the reply. I did try this and it does work but it requires a fundemental restructuring of the underlying data. From your answer, I am guessing the RS charting assumes a single static (required) data structure for the charting features and does not allow for flexibility in the defining the data rerlationships,... which makes it much less functional than charting in Excel or in other statistical/data analysis software. Seem like it makes some pretty trival/common data display tasks much more difficult.
Thanks.

|||OK, Select the line chart, then Select School and drop them under 'Drop Series fields here', Select years and drop them under 'Drop Categroy fields here' and finally Select the data fields and drop them 'Drop data fields here' areas.

Line Chart Help
Crystal wants to summarize the data and present ONE value for ONE day even if there are multiple entries in a day. How can I make it stop doing this? Are there any 3rd party vendors that have additional charts that can be installed?
Check out the attachments:
Chart.jpg - Excel Chart
cry_chart.jpg - Crystal Chart (notice 2 values for 7/23, but Crystal only shows 1 on the chart)
FYIIm running 8.5 because thats the only version my app will support.
I'd appreciate any help!Actually, CR not just shows you 1 value for 7/23/07 on the chart, it returns you sum of those 2 values for that date:
HGB ..... 10.3 .... 7/23/07
HGB ..... 7.9 ..... 7/23/07
If your Date field containes only date, I don't think you can get CR to show your values separately. But if this is a date_time field just formatted as date you can do next:
Open your Chart Expert ->Data. In the 'On change of' section, highlight your date_time field, then click the 'Order' button. I believe you have 'for each day' selected for the 'The section will be printed'.
Set it 'for each second' then you will get your desired result.|||That's what I meant when I said that Crystal sumarizes the data for one day and only shows one value.
Cool man. I'll try that and see if it works. I appreciate it!|||This worked! Thanks for the help.
Line Chart Empty
line chart, the data is shown only partly, or not shown at all.
I noticed that if I have one set of data that covers the full lenght of
x-axis, and another set of data that covers only the right side of x-axis,
then what you will see will be the start of the line representing the first
set, then it stops completely and another line starts representing the second
set.
Anybody knows why it happends and how to fix it?

series and the datapoints having interleaved category (x-axis) values. The
fix is available in RS 2000 SP2.
